About The Team

Anthem Emerging Business Group (EBG) is a new team designed to create new business models and alternative sources of future growth for the enterprise. The EBG team will coordinate with Anthem and its vast array of partners to rapidly translate emerging constituent needs into new assets. EBG will leverage Anthem core competencies and enterprise resources and also enhance/develop distinct partnerships and relationships to innovate market leading solutions.

Commercialization & Innovation Manager (Emerging Business Group)

(Official Title: Business Development Manager)

Responsible for leading the development of new concepts/innovation into future commercializable assets and solutions for Anthem. Engages with the EBG Commercialization and Innovation team leaders, internal business partners and external partners and investment teams to advance proposed business opportunities, demonstrating/proving business value and impact. The intent is to rapidly incubate and commercialize new capabilities and offerings to respond to changing constituent needs and diversify sources of future growth for the enterprise. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports the analysis and experimentation of emerging business opportunities to understand market response, viability and impact

  • Coordinates with internal leaders, external partners, to assemble program approach, execution plan, key milestones

  • Leads/supports development activities – market experiments, learnings capture, industry/partner response

  • Tracks performance of innovations and evolving assets to proposed business case, adjusting to reflect market feedback and identified insights

  • Assembles recommendation on future business models, impact to Anthem businesses, functions, operations

  • Monitors key market trends, offers recommended adjustments as needed to advance emerging business model, opportunity

  • Consolidates research, data, analyses and recommendations to update business cases/investment thesis and refine assumptions as needed

  • Closes out business opportunities that do not effectively address market needs

  • Develops and implements project plans and oversees project resources to execute development and market experimentation activities.

  • Engages, manages identified relationships with external investment and business partners to facilitate execution of critical development and commercialization activities

Preferred Locations - Atlanta, Chicago, Indianapolis, New York City, San Francisco or Minneapolis.

Requires a BA/BS degree; 5-7 years of business development experience including 7 years of healthcare related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Masters degree preferred. Ability to travel may be required.


  • Background and experience supporting or leading commercialization and innovation process including experimentation, testing, piloting, and capture learnings.

  • Knowledge in multiple disciplines within a Healthcare organization

  • Familiarity evaluating/exploring/integrating market trends.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, financial acumen, sense of curiosity, and effective problem solving.

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.

  • Has a bias for action and is orientated towards achieving results.
